Connect a Single IMAP Account in EdbMails
Use the single-account connection workflow when you want to test one mailbox, run a pilot migration, perform a one-user move, or verify the source connection before preparing a bulk CSV. This page covers the IMAP connection step only; destination-specific migration instructions are provided in the IMAP migration scenarios guides.
Before connecting, collect the source IMAP host name, port, TLS/SSL requirement, email address, and the authentication method required by the provider. Common IMAP ports are 993 for IMAP over TLS/SSL and 143 where the provider supports that configuration, but always use the settings published by the source email service.
Authentication is provider-specific. Some services use OAuth or a provider sign-in flow, while others may use a password or app password. For Gmail or Google Workspace, use an app password only where the account has 2-Step Verification, the option is available, and the current EdbMails workflow requires it. Google recommends Sign in with Google where supported.
- Select ‘Single User / Account Migration’, choose
‘Connect to IMAP Server’, and click ‘Next’. Use a POP3 option only
for a separate POP3-source workflow; this page is specifically for IMAP.
- Choose the correct IMAP Host Name from the list or enter
it manually. Provide the email address and the authentication credential required
by the source provider, then click ‘Login’. After EdbMails loads the
mailbox, verify the expected folders before continuing with the migration.

Before you continue
- If login fails, verify the IMAP host name, port, TLS setting, account status, and provider-supported authentication method.
- Check whether the provider restricts IMAP access or simultaneous connections.
- If the source is Gmail or Google Workspace, do not use the retired “Less Secure Apps” sign-in method.
- Run a pilot with this single-account workflow before preparing a large bulk migration.
