How to Upgrade to the Latest Version, and what is the Difference?

Keeping migration software updated ensures maximum performance, stability, and access to the latest features. The EdbMails IMAP Email Migration tool provides regular updates that enhance functionality, resolve critical issues, and improve security for enterprise environments. The version information is always displayed at the top of the main application window and follows a standardized versioning format.

Version numbers

The Application version is always visible at the very top of the main application window. It consists of 4 numbers separated by dots. Example: 6.1.0.13, These numbers indicate the stage and type of update according to the following pattern:

[major].[minor].[maintenance].[build]

which means the following:

  • [major]: The first (leftmost) number represents the major version. This changes rarely and only when the software introduces significant new features or major architectural updates.
  • [minor]: The second number denotes the minor version, which increments with planned improvements, new functionalities, or feature enhancements. Detailed information is always available in the release notes.
  • [maintenance]: The third digit shows the maintenance version. It changes when unplanned but critical updates are released to solve urgent bug fixes that cannot wait for the next minor update.
  • [build]: The final number refers to the build number, which reflects smaller updates such as user interface refinements, performance optimizations, security patches, and minor bug fixes.

How to Upgrade?

An upgrade means installing a newer release of the software in place of the currently installed version. Moving to the latest version of the EdbMails IMAP Migration tool ensures your organization benefits from the most secure and up-to-date feature set available. The upgrade is simple to perform and preserves all existing configurations without requiring any reconfiguration.

  1. Download the Installer: Download it from the download page onto the machine where the EdbMails migration software is installed.
  2. Launch the Installer: Launch the downloaded installer and install the program.

Warning: If the application is running in the background, the installer will automatically pause it during the upgrade process, and you will need to manually resume it once the upgrade is complete.

  3. Upgrading Multiple Installations: If the program is installed on multiple machines in your environment, make sure to upgrade it on every system where it is currently installed.
  4. Post-Upgrade Launch: Once the upgrade is finished, you can launch the application. Your settings will be preserved, but you will need to manually resume the migration process.
