EdbMails OST Recovery Installation Process
Before using the EdbMails OST to PST Converter, install the EdbMails application on a supported Windows system. This guide covers the installation wizard, local prerequisites, and the additional permissions that apply only when you choose a direct Microsoft 365 or Exchange migration destination.
For direct migration to Exchange or Microsoft 365, install EdbMails on a supported Windows machine that can securely reach the required source files and target environment. Choose the processing location according to your organization's network, security, storage, and performance requirements.
Installation wizard
EdbMails is set up using a standard installation wizard. In the first step, click Next, and you will be presented with the licence agreement, which you need to accept.
Following that, the application will be installed in the default location.
The application starts automatically after installation.
Installation and Migration Configuration Impact
Local OST scanning and PST export do not require Exchange or Microsoft 365 administrative roles. The server-side permissions below apply only when configuring a direct migration connection to the corresponding target environment.
Operating system changes
The application lets you install the required .NET 4.0 Framework or higher version.
Exchange migration permissions
When a direct Exchange migration connection is configured, use the permissions and authentication model required by the current target Exchange version and EdbMails release. These permissions are not part of local OST scanning or PST export.
Target Exchange connection
For direct migration to Exchange, configure the target connection with the administrative permissions required by the supported Exchange version and current EdbMails workflow.
Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online connection
For direct migration to Microsoft 365, use the authentication and administrative permissions required by the current EdbMails release and Microsoft 365 environment. This configuration is separate from local OST recovery and PST export.

Installation Verification Process
- Download the installer from the official EdbMails site.
- Review the setup prompts and choose an approved installation location.
- Complete setup and start EdbMails.
- Confirm that the expected OST recovery/migration workflow is visible.
- Run a controlled test with a non-production or copied OST.
- Record application version and any deployment restriction before production work.
