What are the reasons for migrating to Office 365?

Most teams move to Office 365 for some combination of these: Cost savings: Less spent on on-premise hardware, fewer painful upgrade cycles, and ongoing maintenance becomes someone else's problem. Scalability: Size your environment up or down as the business shifts. Accessibility: Mailboxes, documents, and apps reachable from anywhere, on whatever device the user happens to have. Collaboration: SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and Yammer working together for actual teamwork instead of email tag. Security: Built-in threat protection, data loss prevention, and encryption — without needing to bolt on third-party tools. Maintenance: Microsoft handles updates and patches, which frees IT staff for work that actually moves the business. Compliance: Features that help with HIPAA, GDPR, and the rest of the alphabet soup.

What types of Microsoft 365 migration does EdbMails support?

EdbMails covers all the standard Office 365 mailbox migration types. Cutover migration moves every source mailbox into the Office 365 tenant in a single pass — straightforward when the org is small enough to switch over at once. Staged migration breaks the work into phases, useful when you'd rather not move everyone at the same time. Hybrid migration ties on-premise Exchange and Office 365 together for organizations running both. IMAP migration is also on the menu — Gmail to Office 365 being one of the more common examples.

Which license do I need to buy to migrate Office 365 Mailboxes?

You'll need an Office 365 Migration license to move your mailboxes from Office 365.

Can I migrate only new emails using EdbMails without duplicates on the target server?

Yes. By default, the first run is a full migration. From the second run onward, incremental migration kicks in automatically, picking up only new or modified items — no duplicates land on the target. Yes — each shared mailbox uses up one license, same as a regular mailbox.

Is it possible to migrate specific data from source Office 365 to target Office 365?

Definitely. EdbMails handles selective Office 365 migration through filters that you can shape pretty granularly — message received date, sender address, recipients (CC and BCC included), subject line, attachment names, and read/unread status all work as filter criteria.

How do I choose the best Office 365 migration software?

Compare migration tools across capabilities like license type, concurrent mailbox migration, automatic throttling management, incremental migration, public folder licensing, and technical support. Tools that offer lifetime licenses, free upgrades, and 24/7 support typically deliver better long-term value than subscription-based options.

How does the licensing work?

The licensing model is per-mailbox: each migrated mailbox consumes one license, calculated against the source mailbox count. Nothing stops you from running multiple migration jobs in parallel across different machines, as long as you've got licenses left in the pool.

Do you have Office 365 Migration checklists?

Yes - Office 365 migration checklists are available to help you plan and execute your migration successfully.

Flexible Office 365 Migration Scenarios

Unified Solution for All Office 365 Migration Needs

EdbMails provides workflows for supported Office 365 migration scenarios, including tenant-to-tenant transfers, mailbox exports, and migration involving compatible platforms. Review source, destination, scope, and licensing before choosing a route.

Flexible Office 365 Migration Scenarios

EdbMails Office 365 Migration Software supports every major Office 365 migration scenario from a single application, including cutover, staged, tenant-to-tenant, and cross-tenant migration. Instead of forcing every project through the same process, the software adapts to the factors that actually matter: how much data needs to move, how much downtime the organization can tolerate, and why the migration is happening in the first place, whether that's a merger, a platform switch, or a compliance requirement. Administrators choose the approach that fits the project, not the approach the tool happens to support. See the complete list of supported scenarios in the Office 365 Migration Scenarios guide.

Support For All Office 365 Migration Scenarios

One Application for Every Office 365 Migration Scenario

EdbMails runs cutover, staged, tenant-to-tenant, and cross-tenant migrations from the same application, along with Office 365 to Exchange, IMAP, and PST export and import. Administrators do not need separate software, separate licenses, or separate training for each migration type. Every scenario uses the same connection setup, OAuth 2.0 authentication, mailbox mapping, and filtering tools, so switching from one scenario to another on a new project does not mean learning a new interface. This also means a single migration job can be part of a larger plan: a tenant-to-tenant consolidation, for example, can run alongside a PST export for the mailboxes being retired rather than kept.

Right-Sized Office 365 Migration for Any Organization

Smaller organizations with limited data volumes typically use cutover migration to move all mailboxes in a single operation, often completed over a weekend with minimal planning overhead. Larger organizations with extensive data volumes typically use staged migration to move mailboxes in phases, migrating the most time-sensitive data first and the remainder in the background, which keeps the downtime window short even when total data volume is large. EdbMails supports both approaches under the same license and product edition, so the choice comes down to what fits the organization's size and timeline, not what the software happens to support.

Office 365 Migration That Adapts to Business Change

Mergers, acquisitions, domain changes, spin-offs, and organizational restructuring often require moving mailboxes, archive mailboxes, and public folders between Office 365 tenants, sometimes on short notice. EdbMails supports tenant-to-tenant and cross-tenant migration for these scenarios, preserving folder hierarchy, metadata, and permissions during the transfer so users retain full access to their data once the move is complete. Because the same license and application handle this scenario alongside the others, IT teams don't need to procure new tooling when a business event changes the migration plan mid-project.

Flexibility to Adjust Your Migration Strategy Mid-Project

Migration requirements can change after a project starts: a data volume estimate turns out to be wrong, a deadline moves, or leadership decides to combine two planned migrations into one. EdbMails supports both staged and cutover migration approaches, giving administrators flexibility to adapt their migration strategy as project requirements change. A running migration can be paused and resumed at any point without losing progress. Date, time, and size filters are set before a migration job starts, so for a staged migration, each phase can be configured with its own filter settings ahead of that run, narrowing or expanding scope from one phase to the next.

One License Covers Every Migration Scenario

EdbMails is licensed per source mailbox. Once a mailbox is licensed, it can be migrated multiple times, including delta runs during a staged migration, or migrated to a different destination or domain, without requiring an additional license but it should have to be the same source. This applies across all supported scenarios, cutover, staged, tenant-to-tenant, and cross-tenant, under the same license, which makes budgeting for a migration project predictable even if the scenario or destination changes after purchase.

Consistent Migration Reporting Across Every Scenario

Regardless of which migration scenario is running, EdbMails generates detailed migration reports covering item counts, completion status, and any errors encountered, down to the individual mailbox level. A cumulative report can combine multiple mailboxes and migration sessions into a single view, which is useful for tracking progress across a multi-phase staged migration. These reports also serve as documentation for compliance or audit purposes after the project closes.

24/7 Support Throughout Your Office 365 Migration

Switching between migration scenarios, or combining more than one in a single project, can raise questions that a generic help article won't answer. EdbMails' support team is available around the clock by live chat or phone, at no additional cost, to help plan or troubleshoot any supported scenario.

Test Every Migration Scenario

Every supported scenario, cutover, staged, tenant-to-tenant, and cross-tenant, can be tested in the free trial, which exports, migrates, or backs up up to 30 items per folder while preserving the original mailbox folder structure. That's enough to evaluate how a given scenario handles your mailbox structure and settings before committing to a license for the full migration.

EdbMails supports Office 365 migration projects of any scope, from a single-tenant switch to a multi-phase enterprise rollout. With one application covering every supported scenario, consistent reporting and support throughout, and no added licensing cost for switching approaches, EdbMails gives IT teams the flexibility to plan a migration project around business needs rather than tool limitations.
