What should I compare in SharePoint migration software?

Compare supported SharePoint scope, tenant-to-tenant support, selective migration, incremental processing, site mapping, authentication, logs, support and licensing.

Should I choose a SharePoint migration tool based only on feature lists?

No. Run a representative pilot migration and validate the target because real SharePoint environments differ in structure, permissions and business requirements.

Does EdbMails support source-to-target site mapping?

Yes. The current EdbMails workflow documents automatic, manual and previous migration mapping options.

Does EdbMails support incremental SharePoint migration?

Yes. The supplied documentation describes later incremental processing for supported new or modified content.

Does EdbMails provide migration logs?

Yes. The current SharePoint migration guide and feature pages document migration progress and log reports for reviewing operation results.

Does EdbMails support tenant-to-tenant SharePoint migration?

Yes. The documented workflow connects separate Microsoft 365 source and target tenants and maps source sites to target sites.

Can EdbMails migrate multiple SharePoint sites at the same time?

Yes. The supplied documentation describes simultaneous migration of multiple SharePoint sites where appropriate for larger projects.

What authentication does the EdbMails SharePoint workflow use?

The current documentation requires separate Microsoft Entra Source and Target app registrations with read-oriented source permissions and destination write and create permissions.

How should I run a proof of concept for SharePoint migration software?

Connect to both tenants, load and select representative sites, map them to the target, migrate, then review logs and have business owners verify the content.

Why is pilot testing preferred over feature-list comparisons?

SharePoint environments differ in structure, permissions and content, so a representative pilot and target validation reveal real behavior that feature lists alone cannot confirm.

What licensing factors should I consider when comparing tools?

Compare whether pricing is based on sites, users, data volume, subscriptions or another metric, and calculate cost using the actual source-site or workload scope of your project.

SharePoint Migration Software Comparison

Compare SharePoint Migration Software Before You Choose

Choosing SharePoint migration software requires more than comparing feature lists. This guide explains how to evaluate migration scope, site mapping, incremental transfers, usability, and validation options, while showing where EdbMails fits when moving supported SharePoint content between Microsoft 365 tenants.

Key Factors When Comparing SharePoint Migration Software

Choosing SharePoint migration software requires more than checking whether a tool can copy files. A Microsoft 365 SharePoint migration project can involve site collections, subsites, document libraries, lists, permissions, metadata, target-site mapping, incremental migration, migration logs and post-migration validation.

This page provides a criteria-based framework for comparing SharePoint migration software. It is intentionally focused on evaluation criteria rather than unsupported competitor feature claims.

Key criteria for comparing SharePoint migration tools

Evaluation area	Questions to ask
Migration scope	Does the tool support the SharePoint sites, lists, libraries, files, folders and other content your project requires?
Tenant-to-tenant support	Can it connect separate Microsoft 365 tenants and map source sites to target sites?
Selective migration	Can administrators choose only the sites and supported content that should move?
Incremental migration	Can subsequent runs process supported new or modified content after the initial pass?
Site mapping	Does the tool provide automatic and/or manual source-to-target mapping?
Parallel processing	Can multiple SharePoint sites be migrated simultaneously where appropriate?
Authentication	Does the tool use current Microsoft authentication and documented app permissions?
Reporting	Are logs available to identify completed, skipped and failed migration operations?
Support	Is technical assistance available during configuration and migration?
Licensing	Is pricing based on sites, users, data volume, subscriptions or another metric?

Where EdbMails Fits in a SharePoint Migration Software Evaluation

EdbMails SharePoint Migration Software provides an easy-to-use, GUI-based solution for migrating SharePoint Online sites and content between Microsoft 365 tenants. It supports source and target connections, SharePoint site selection, source-to-target mapping, simultaneous migration of multiple sites, selective migration, incremental migration, and detailed migration logs.

EdbMails uses separate Microsoft Entra app registrations for the source and target environments to establish secure connections. The configuration includes assigning the required source read permissions and destination write/create permissions to facilitate SharePoint migration.

SharePoint migration software evaluation matrix

Scope fit: Confirm the tool supports the exact SharePoint objects required by your project.

Source and target compatibility: Verify the Microsoft 365 tenants and target architecture before migration.

Migration control: Prefer tooling that lets administrators select sites and map them to the right destination.

Change handling: Evaluate incremental capabilities if the source will remain active during migration.

Operational visibility: Require logs or reports that make failed and skipped operations visible.

Validation: Test representative sites before committing to a large production migration.

Support model: Assess whether vendor support is available during setup and migration.

Licensing model: Calculate cost using the actual source-site or workload scope of the project.

Why pilot testing matters more than marketing claims

SharePoint environments differ in structure, site design, permissions and content. Do not select migration software based only on claims such as “complete migration,” “zero downtime,” “unlimited,” or “100% data integrity.” A better evaluation is to migrate representative sites, review logs, validate the target and confirm that the required business content behaves as expected.

Questions to ask during a proof of concept

Can the tool connect to both source and target tenants with the required authentication model?

Can administrators load and select the required SharePoint sites?

Can source sites be mapped accurately to the intended target sites?

Are lists, libraries, files, folders and other required supported content migrated as expected?

Can multiple sites be processed efficiently for a larger project?

Can an incremental pass process supported changes after the first migration?

Are migration logs detailed enough to identify failed or skipped operations?

Can business owners verify the migrated SharePoint content in the target tenant?
