Do I need Microsoft Entra app registration?

Yes. The workflow requires separate source and target Microsoft Entra ID applications with documented Microsoft Graph permissions and admin consent.

Can I map users when names or domains differ?

Yes. EdbMails can map matching source and target sites automatically, lets administrators review or modify the mapping manually, and can reuse previous migration mapping where applicable.

Can multiple OneDrive sites migrate at once?

Yes. EdbMails supports simultaneous migration of multiple OneDrive sites, which helps process larger workloads efficiently.

Should I migrate the whole tenant in one job?

No. Group users into manageable batches, run a pilot first, review progress and logs, then proceed with the remaining users.

Can users keep working during the migration?

Yes. If users remain active in the source, plan a subsequent incremental migration before cutover.

What information do I need for both tenants?

Keep the SharePoint Admin Center URL and the Microsoft 365 Global Administrator account for the source and target, along with the registered application details for each tenant.

How do I validate the target OneDrive environment?

After each batch, review the migration logs and sign in to representative target OneDrive sites, confirming files and folders, source-to-target mapping and any business-critical metadata, sharing or access requirements.

Is tenant-to-tenant the same as cross-tenant migration?

They are closely related. Cross-tenant migration emphasizes organizational boundaries and identity changes across separate Microsoft 365 tenants.

Understanding OneDrive Tenant-to-Tenant Migration

OneDrive tenant-to-tenant migration moves supported OneDrive for Business content from user accounts in one Microsoft 365 tenant to corresponding accounts in another tenant. This is a common requirement during Microsoft 365 restructuring, acquisitions, domain changes, provider changes, and tenant consolidation projects.

EdbMails provides a direct OneDrive migration workflow in which administrators connect the source and target Microsoft 365 tenants, load the required OneDrive sites, select the users in scope, map source OneDrive sites to the appropriate target sites, start the migration, and review the migration logs. The current EdbMails guide also documents incremental migration for subsequent runs and simultaneous migration of multiple OneDrive sites.

When do organizations need OneDrive tenant-to-tenant migration?

Typical scenarios include moving users into a new corporate Microsoft 365 tenant, consolidating environments after a merger or acquisition, reorganizing business units, changing domains or providers, and separating selected users into another tenant.

Move OneDrive user data from one Microsoft 365 tenant to another.

Map source users to the correct target users even when account names or domains differ.

Organize users into manageable migration batches for larger projects.

Use an incremental pass for supported new or modified source content before final transition.

What OneDrive data can be included?

EdbMails OneDrive Migration Software supports the migration of OneDrive for Business content, including files, folders, documents, photos, videos, and other supported data stored in user sites. It enables administrators to select specific OneDrive users and transfer their content between Microsoft 365 tenants, including supported document libraries.

For larger or complex migration projects, performing a pilot migration helps verify file compatibility, metadata, sharing permissions, and destination requirements before proceeding with the complete migration.

Prepare the source and target Microsoft 365 tenants

Before migration, identify the users in scope and confirm their destination accounts. Keep the SharePoint server URL, SharePoint Admin Center URL and Microsoft 365 Global Administrator account information ready for both tenants.

The current EdbMails workflow requires separate Microsoft Entra ID applications for the source and target OneDrive connections. Use the dedicated Manual App Registration for OneDrive Migration page for the OneDrive-specific application names, Microsoft Graph permissions, client IDs, tenant IDs, client secrets and admin consent.

Map OneDrive users before migration

Correct mapping is one of the most important controls in a tenant-to-tenant migration. EdbMails can load available OneDrive sites, map matching source and target sites automatically, and allow administrators to review or modify the mapping manually. Previous migration mapping can also be reused where applicable.

Verify representative mappings before starting a large batch, especially when user principal names, domains, ownership or destination structures are changing.

Run the migration in controlled batches

For larger environments, avoid treating the entire tenant as one undifferentiated job. Group users into manageable batches, run a pilot first, review progress and logs, and then proceed with the remaining users. EdbMails supports simultaneous migration of multiple OneDrive sites, which can help administrators process larger workloads efficiently.

Use incremental migration for final changes

If users continue working in the source OneDrive during the project, plan a subsequent incremental migration before cutover. The documented EdbMails workflow uses locally stored encrypted metadata for the incremental check and recommends using the same migration computer for consecutive runs of an already-migrated OneDrive site.

This reduces unnecessary reprocessing of previously migrated data. Review the logs after each pass rather than assuming no item is reprocessed.

Validate the target OneDrive environment

After each batch, review migration logs and sign in to representative target OneDrive sites. Confirm that the intended users received the expected files and folders, that source-to-target mapping was correct, and that any business-critical metadata, sharing or access requirements are validated explicitly.
